Nuclear Industry Special Interest Group

Work in the UK nuclear industry encompasses many different areas from decommissioning legacy facilities, contributing towards UK energy security to seeking a long term solution for the UK’s nuclear disposal. The challenges are vast and varied. To support this work, risk practitioners from the nuclear industry have been working together for several years to share ideas and best practice with the formation of our IRM Special Interest Group, Nuclear Industry, representing a step forward in this relationship. The group draws together Risk Practitioners from the Nuclear Industry to provide support and networking opportunities within the wider risk management community to gain a perspective beyond the Nuclear Industry.

The event will focus on the need for the right Tone from the Top and how this drives risk culture in the organisation. With a variety of speakers from different perspectives, we aim to get a better understanding of what the organisation needs from the Board and senior leaders as well as what the Board expect and need from the risk teams. There will be short break-out sessions to discuss risk appetite and the use of risk information in strategic decision making. The intended audience are directors and senior leaders who are interested in risk and more senior risk professionals whose work involves engagement with the Board and leadership. Our speakers at present are the Director of Risk for the Ministry of Justice, the Chief Risk Officer for the MOD, a Non-Executive Director from Sellafield and the NDA Group Director for Risk.

Benefits for our group:
• View of risk at the executive level straight from the source
• Gain perspective and insight from different sources including Government
• Key themes from the new Orange Book
• Networking opportunity for members

We would also appreciate if you could take the time to complete this short survey. The responses would be used to influence how we run our sessions.
