This qualification introduces the concepts of supply chain risk management and equips risk practitioners with the ability to apply their risk management knowledge in a world where value is increasingly added via a supply chain. It explains how globalised outsourcing, specialisation and just in time production are changing the risk environments for many organisations. The qualification provides a broad understanding of supply chain risk management principles and practices.
Taking 6-9 months to complete, the certificate is a distance learning study programme that is relevant to all sectors.

Qualification overview
This qualification introduces the concepts of supply chain risk management and equips risk practitioners with the ability to apply their risk management knowledge in a world where value is increasingly added via a supply chain. It explains how globalised outsourcing, specialisation and just in time production are changing the risk environments for many organisations. It looks at how appropriate risk management tools and techniques can be applied, adapted and developed in an increasing digital context. The qualification also provides a broad understanding supply chain risk management principles and practices. The relevance of the qualification is explained in the context of increasingly extended organisations facing an expanded range of complex interconnected risks.
Qualification learning outcomes
By the end of the module you should be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of how supply chains operate and the risk implications of ongoing developments from various perspectives including those of a public and private perspective.
- Explain the nature of the major sources of disruption and other risks that supply chains face and understand how these can differ by industry sector and the various impacts these can have.
- Help your organisation implement the appropriate governance frameworks across extended organisational boundaries and the need to ensure “cross functional silo” thinking and measurement.
- Discuss the importance of the ethical and moral obligations in a supply chain context, recognising the impact it can have on brand value and reputation.
- Contribute knowledgeably to identifying, assessing and controlling the supply chain risks that your organisation faces.
- Discuss supply chain incident management and reporting, and apply the principles of audit and assurance to these risks.
- Contribute to supply chain financial risk transfer decisions such as insurance and hedging and the limitations of these mechanisms.
- Explain the new supply chain risk challenges and developments in the context of complexity and value-added networks and the global challenges of sustainability, urbanisation and Industry 4.0.
- Explain how digital analytics and data can be used to drive greater transparency whilst at the same time being aware of the new risks these developments create.
The certificate is set at an equivalent level of difficulty to an undergraduate degree.
Students undertaking the Supply Chain Risk Management Certificate qualification can complete the qualification within 6-9 months.

There are no formal entry requirements.
IRM's qualifications are delivered and assessed in English. If English is not your first language, we recommend you have an Academic IELTS score of 6.0 (with no element less than 5.5) or equivalent evidence of competence in the English language before beginning your studies.
IRM’s examinations are online and computer-based. Module content will be assessed through the use of the learning outcomes.

Examination Centres
Pearson VUE has an extensive test centre network across the world.
Students will be notified of the date they can book the test centre for the exam after they have enrolled on the qualification and their payment successfully processed.
Special needs and access arrangements
Wherever possible, examination arrangements will take into account any special requirements you have. If you complete an application for special arrangements, we must receive your completed form no later than two months before your scheduled examination and before you book your exam centre with Pearson VUE. This is to give us enough time to effectively help you with your requirements. While we aim to meet all requests, we cannot fulfil requirements where applications are received late.

It is suitable as an introduction to the subject of supply chain for those from all disciplines directly or indirectly related to professional risk management.
For existing IRM members, it is also suitable as a supplementary qualification for continuing professional development.

How many attempts and how long do I have to complete the qualification?
Students have 3 attempts and must complete the qualification successfully within 3 consecutive sessions e.g. June, December, June or December, June, December. After this point, students will be required to re-enrol and pay a further enrolment fee.

Please note that the enrolment is not an enquiry form or an expression of interest. By completing the online enrolment application you are enrolling as a student on to the course for the qualification and must pay the course fees; you will be asked to pay your full course fees by debit/credit card (MasterCard or Visa) at the end of this online application.
Alternatively if your organisation is sponsoring you and has already agreed to cover the cost of your course fees and needs an invoice raised you can select this option. Please ensure that you have all of the correct invoicing details before starting this process - information you will need from the person agreeing to sponsor you includes a PO number, invoicing email address, and invoicing postal address. A PO cannot be accepted as an enrolment, and an enrolment form will need to be completed as well as submitting a PO.
If your organisation is sponsoring your course fees, please ensure that this has already been agreed before starting the enrolment process, as once the enrolment form has been submitted, full payment is required.
