Iain Wright, CFIRM

IRM Chairman: Audit & Risk Committee

Iain is a Chartered Accountant and, after working in practice for ten years, held senior roles as a securities regulator and then an insurance supervisor, spending a total of ten years in financial services regulation. Subsequently, Iain has held Chief Risk Officer roles in the UK and been SVP of Global Enterprise and Operational Risk in a multinational life insurance group based in Canada. He is currently CRO of a leading UK Wealth Management Group.

Iain chairs the Institute's Audit and Risk Committee.

Ian Livsey, PhD MBA

Chief Executive
 

Ian Livsey is the Chief Executive at the Institute of Risk Management.

Ian began his career in the oil & gas and petrochemicals sectors with BP, Shell and ICI. Ian has also worked in local government and central government. He was Chief Executive of the Gangmaster Licensing Authority, a law enforcement agency. He has experience in the rail industry as Managing Director at the Centre for Rail Skills. In addition to his executive roles, Ian was Chairman of OSHCR, a national Health & Safety body.

He was previously Chairman of JTL,one of the largest providers of apprenticeships in England, and of SummitSkills working in the construction industry. Ian was previously Chairman of TrustMark, an accreditation body in the domestic construction sector. Ian was a trustee at the voluntary sector organisations, Groundwork and London Play.

He holds a PhD from Bristol University and an MBA from Warwick Business School.

Helen Hunter-Jones, MIRM

Helen is currently Head of Group Risk at Network Rail, working to continuously improve enterprise risk management, the practical application of risk management and risk management maturity. She is a successful IRM diploma student and received the Diploma Student of the Year Award in 2012, and more recently, the CIR Risk Manager of the Year Award.

With over 15 years of risk management experience, Helen is an experienced risk and assurance manager that has successfully implemented ERM and various assurance frameworks. She has worked at all levels of a business and has an in-depth understanding of fields including military standards, design and manufacturing, information security and business continuity.

Dr Maria Papadaki

Maria Papadaki obtained her first degree in Business Economics from Salford University. Part of her undergraduate study was carried out in IPAG University in Nice (France). Maria completed her MSc in Management of Projects from The University of Manchester (UoM) in 2005. As an internship, Maria undertook an economic study into the viability of establishing Formula 1 racing in Crete. In 2006, she joined the UoM PhD programme and also worked as a research associate and teaching assistant for the school of Mechanical Aerospace and Civil Engineering (MACE). In 2008, she conducted an internship with the Risk Function in Rolls-Royce plc.. In 2009 was appointed as an Enterprise Risk Management Professional at Rolls-Royce’s. In 2011 she joined Rolls-Royce plc. Supply Chain Function as a Risk Manager in order to work cross functionally and across all Rolls-Royce plc sectors (Civil, Defense, Energy, Nuclear and Marine) to design, develop and implement integrated and standardised tools and processes to enable the business to proactively identify, manage and mitigate delivery risks across the global supply chain. In 2013, she completed her doctoral studies in the field of risk from The University of Manchester.

In 2013, Dr Maria Papadaki was seconded as an Interim Head of Risk, leading the risk management for the UK Nuclear Restoration (UKNR), a joint venture between AMEC, Atkins and Rolls-Royce plc bidding for the largest nuclear decommissioning project in UK. In 2014, Maria initiated the idea and led the development of the first innovation Hub (H2B) in Crete, Greece on behalf of the Heraklion Chamber of Commerce. In 2015 Dr Papadaki joined the University of Manchester working as a Senior Relationship Manager for the British University in Dubai and the UK Alliance Universities and also acted as the Head of the Programme Management office and the DCRI (Dubai Centre for Risk and Innovation). She is now working as the Management Director for the DCRI and an Assistance Professor for BUiD. Under this profile, she has been leading the development of smart certificates for BUiD’s graduates which made the university 1st in the Middle East and 3rd in the world implementing Blockchain technology in education. Her research and work is now focused on Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence, Enterprise Risk Management and Virtual and Augmented Reality. Dr Maria Papadaki is a visiting lecturer in The University of Manchester and she has published numerous papers in the field of Enterprise and Portfolio, Programme and Project Risk Management.

Clive Thompson, BSc (Econ) FCII CFIRM

Clive has been a member of the Institute since 1993 and has been active since taking his Diploma. He founded the Innovation Special Interest Group of the Institute and developed it into a body which investigates new ideas, publishes accessible papers and contributes to Institute events. He has also contributed to various Risk Forum Committees and been a member of the Risk and Audit Committee.
Clive has 30 years’ experience of insurance and risk management. He spent his early career in the Caribbean and in Africa working for an insurance company and quickly developed an interest in using insurance to reward good risk management. He has developed risk financing techniques for many different sectors and worked with regulators to introduce new ways of using insurance for smaller organisations.

He is currently a senior Project Director at Willis Towers Watson, a global insurance broker, working in their Division which serves Banks and other Financial Institutions. He focuses on new client solutions and product development within that sector. Prior to Willis, Clive worked for Aon and at insurance companies.
Clive went to London University and he is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute. He is chairman of IRM Trading Limited.

Vinay Shrivastava, BSc (Hons) MEng MBA CFIRM FAPM

Director, Turner & Townsend
 

Vinay is Turner & Townsend’s Infrastructure Risk Management Leader responsible for business development and key account delivery across the United Kingdom. Over the last 15 years, Vinay has provided risk leadership to major projects and programmes ranging in value from £100M to £16B across the aviation, defence, water, energy and commercial real estate sectors. He has worked in the UK (including Scotland), Trinidad and Tobago, Canada, Spain, Abu Dhabi and India.

He is a MBA graduate from Cambridge University and holds a MEng degree from the University of British Columbia. Vinay currently chairs the Institute’s Infrastructure Risk SiG and sits on the Technical Committee. He is regularly invited to speak at professional risk management events and Universities. He is a director of IRM Trading Limited.

Ray Flynn

Risk Manager, specialising in Anti-bribery & Corruption
 

Ray has helped embed anti-bribery & corruption (ABC) and fraud policies and procedures in 3 global businesses. He has conducted ABC risk assessments, fraud investigations, compliance audits and due diligence investigations throughout Europe, the Middle East and Asia and the Americas and has developed and managed mitigation plans for non-compliances, including working as part of a World Bank team to investigate corruption over a 2 year period.

Ray is also an experienced business manager. He took over and turned around two failing business units and acted as an interim manager for two others, based in 4 different countries. He sat on the IRM’s Audit and Risk Committee for 4 years.

Rahat Latif, MSc, MBA, CMIRM

Head of Enterprise Risk Management, Qatargas
 

Rahat came to Qatar in 2006 as Risk Manager on Qatargas’s QG3&4 LNG design and construction project. The project completed successfully and QG3&4 is now in operation.

In 2010 Rahat led the corporate initiative to develop and implement enterprise wide risk management and business continuity in Qatargas. As Head of ERM, he leads a team engaged with extracting value from the ERM process by helping the organisation to identify, evaluate and manage its strategic and operational risks, thus making an important contribution from strategic planning to achieving operational objectives. He and his team continue to refine, improve and embed ERM and BCM throughout the organisation, including the knowledge and competency development of staff around the company. In 2012 Rahat received the Qatargas CEO Award for Excellence for his work on developing, designing and rolling out the ERM program in Qatargas.

Prior to Qatar Rahat worked in risk consulting in the UK for over 15 years (his last position was Associate Director with Turner & Townsend London office), assisting clients from a diverse range of sectors including air and rail transport, finance, utilities, construction, oil & gas and government.

Rahat has played a keen interest in developing the profession of risk management in the Middle East. He started and grew the first Middle East regional group of the IRM (which has since spawned into the Qatar, UAE, Saudi and Bahraini groups). He has promoted knowledge sharing and learning by speaking at many conferences in Europe, the Middle and Far East in the last 10 years. In 2009 he received the ‘Mark Butterworth’ achievement award from the Institute of Risk Management.

Rahat is married with 3 children, and is an active squash player and amateur photographer.

Sarah Christman CMIRM

Risk Director, Equifax.
 

Sarah is Risk Director for Equifax and TDX Group in U.K. and Ireland, providers of data, analytics, technology and expertise that help businesses, governments and consumers make more informed decisions. She has over 10 years’ experience in compliance and risk management within the financial services industry, in both first and second line of defence roles. Prior to joining financial services, she spent 10 years in the US Navy driving ships and running an  aircraft carrier nuclear reactor controls division. Sarah’s first encounter with the IRM came through in house delivery of the Fundamentals of Risk Management course at Capital One. She subsequently completed the IRM International Diploma in Risk Management with Distinction and holds the ICA Diploma in Compliance (Merit). Outside of work, Sarah can be found on the weekend with her husband and two sons running intervals and lifting barbells at the local CrossFit box. Despite her American heritage, she is also a cricket fan and likes to spend the day at her local ground, Trent Bridge.

Anita Punwani, CFIRM, BEng MBA MSc.

Deputy Chair.

 
 

Anita's background is in public policy, engineering, management and economic consultancy. She holds a MBA from Imperial College Business School.

Anita has held facilitation, leadership, management, advisory, assurance, education and training roles as Head of Risk Management, Associate Director and Director in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors. She has advised senior officials in UK government departments including the Foreign Office, Home Office, HM Treasury, HM Revenue & Customs and Department for Communities & Local Government. A member of the ‘Risk Working Group’, Anita played a key role in providing assurance to the funders that the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games would be delivered successfully.

An active member since 1998, Anita has carried out a number of roles for the IRM notably as a member of the Audit & Risk Committee and various Special Interest Groups.

Her international perspective has been broadened by studying for a MSc in Global Governance & Ethics as well as experience with a leading international non-governmental organisation.

Anita is a member of the Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham House), the Chair of the British Standards Institute’s ‘Governance’ Committee, a UK Expert and the IRM’s Liaison Representative on the International Organization for Standardization’s committee tasked with developing the forthcoming standard on the Governance of Organizations.
